Coaching is not:
a. Counselling – deals with issues which are based on emotional aspects. Clients have often experienced trauma which has affected them deeply. They sometimes can’t move on from a single incident and dwell on specific events. The counsellor then works with the client in looking at the perceived problems from the past and continuing on to the present. In that sense the counsellor is a third party in terms of the problem solving.
b. Mentoring – is based around a mentor sharing and guiding in a systematic manner to give specific direction to a mentee. The mentor uses their previous experience quite strongly to advise on what the mentee should do to achieve results.
c. Consulting – is aimed towards organisational improvements and efficiencies. The consultant works with the client on competencies, processes and structures to improve the performance of all the different aspects.
"If you don’t like something change it; if you can’t change it, change the way you think about it."
